Ongoing activity, site congestion, architectural features and
LEED requirements are driving factors for the use of precast / prestressed concrete products for these structures. Typical products used on this type of project are walls (exterior) and hollowcore slabs (elevated flooring - noise reduction). The walls can be insulated or non-insulated, and architectural finishes (colors, textures, reveals and brick insets) can be added for style to compliment the surrounding environment or structures.
Common areas or indoor pools may need long spans or have climate requirements; therefore hollowcore slabs or double tees could be considered.
Here in the Midwest, tornadoes are another factor. Insulated precast wall panels and a hollowcore ceiling/roof are great for resisting the forces of Mother Nature.
